Setting up HanjaKey on iPhone/iPad
- Open the [Settings] app
- Select [General]
- Select [Keyboard]
- Select [Keyboards] again
- Select [Add New Keyboard...]
- Find and select [HanjaKey] from the list
- Go back to keyboard settings and tap the arrow (>) next to [HanjaKey]
- Turn on [Allow Full Access] (ON)
π‘ How to Use the Keyboard:
β’ In any app where the keyboard is available (Messages, Notes, Mail, etc.)
β’ Long press the π button on the keyboard
β’ Select [HanjaKey] to start using it

β’ For Hanja recommendation feature (prioritize frequently used Hanja)

1οΈβ£ Converting to Hanja
- Enter the character or word you want to convert in Korean (Hangul).
- Press the "Hanja" button.
- Select the Hanja character or word you want.
- The Korean text is replaced with Hanja.
π‘ Tip: You can convert character by character, or convert entire words like "κ²½μ " to "ηΆζΏ" at once!
1οΈβ£-2 Hanja Grid Popup (Browsing Many Candidates)
When there are many Hanja candidates, you can find characters in a wider view.
- After entering Korean text, press the "Hanja" button.
- Press the βΌ button on the right side of the candidate list to open the grid popup.
- View Hanja characters and meanings at a glance in a 6-column grid.
- Press the "ι¨" button on the right to switch to radical view.
- Select the desired radical from the radical list on the left.
- Hanja characters with that radical are displayed with stroke count, meaning, and other readings.
- Select the desired Hanja to input it directly.
π Using Radical View:
Many Hanja characters have multiple readings and meanings. In radical view, you can check all readings and meanings of a character, helping you select the correct Hanja.
2οΈβ£ Registering to Personal Dictionary
- Enter a Korean word.
- If the word is not in the dictionary, Hanja candidates for the last character will be displayed.
- Select the Hanja to convert the last character, then move the cursor forward one space.
- Press the "Hanja" button again to select the Hanja candidate.
- When done, enter symbol mode and press β.
- When the Korean input field appears, enter the Korean reading for that Hanja word.
(Abbreviations are also possible) - Press the "Register" button to save.
- You can check it in "My Dictionary List".
- You can also add entries from "Add Hanja Dictionary".
π Personal Dictionary Usage Example:
Register frequently used technical terms or special Hanja words, and they'll convert in one step next time!
3οΈβ£ Using Translation (AI-based)
- Select Settings βοΈ in the top right of the main screen, then choose either "Classical Chinese" or "Modern Chinese" as the default mode.
- Enter Hanja or Korean text on the keyboard, then press the "Translate" button.
The app automatically detects the text before the cursor: Hanja β Korean, Korean β Chinese. - Long press the "Translate" button to translate using the opposite mode.
(Takes about 10 seconds) - Enter a single Hanja character and press the "Translate" button to use it as a Hanja dictionary.
- In Settings, toggle "Replace Original" on to replace the source text with the translation only, or off to show both.
β οΈ About the Translation Feature:
β’ This uses AI for translation, so results may not be 100% accurate.
π‘ Tip β Spacebar Trackpad: Long-press the spacebar to enter trackpad mode. Drag left/right to move the cursor character by character, or up/down to move line by line. Lift your finger to return to normal keyboard.

Q: The keyboard doesn't appear in the list
A: You need to install the app first, then add it in Settings β General β Keyboard. If you reinstalled the app, try restarting your device.
Q: Is it safe to allow Full Access?
A: Yes, it's safe. HanjaKey does not transmit any data to servers, and all data is stored only on your device.
Q: How do I switch keyboards in other apps?
A: Long press the π button on the keyboard to see a list of installed keyboards. Select HanjaKey.
Q: How many entries can I register in the personal dictionary?
A: Free users can register up to 5 entries. Premium users can register unlimited entries.
